Catching up... Noonday Collection Party

Goodness... I am so sorry for being MIA in the blog world lately! I can hardly believe that a month has past without a single post. I promise it hasn't been because of a lack of material. We have had one of the busiest and blessed past few weeks. I kept thinking to myself... "I HAVE to blog about this" but our time has been so limited.

So... here I am catching up.

I am going to write a blog post each day this week. By the end of the week we should be more than caught up! Hang on to your seats!

Party with a Purpose:

I hosted a Fair Trade party through Noonday Collections the first week of December. The primary reason for me hosting the party, was just to raise awareness to my friends who were unfamiliar with Fair Trade. I wanted them to see that we have purchasing power. That we can choose to purchase some items (olive oil, coffee, jewelery, scarfs... etc) Fair Trade instead of at a chain store.

In a nutshell... when we purchase Fair Trade, we are purchasing products made by people in impoverished countries allowing them to be freed from poverty, freed from prostitution, keep their babies, etc. They work hard to learn a trade, and by us purchasing their products it assures them of a fair wage and stable income. How cool is that?

So, like I said, my main reason for hosting the party was to raise awareness. God is so good though, and allowed me to sit next to Jessica at an event one evening. As we started talking I learned that we are both adopting from Africa. Soon after I learned that she started a Fair Trade business here in Austin and part of the proceeds can go towards your adoption fundraising. Supporting a local business: check. Purchasing Fair Trade: check. Help raise money for our adoption: check. I decided to host my party through her, and I'm so glad that I did.

Anyway- Noonday Collections is amazing! I am so impressed by Jessica and her heart for God and her heart for people. It is contagious. I was also impressed by the quality and style of the items she sells. You should check out her website here. Make sure and read the stories of the artisans who make the items. It was a great night with friends and a great time purchasing Christmas gifts with a purpose. God is so good!

Thanks for being so patient with me over the past few weeks! I'm looking forward to giving you updates this week on our adoption!

p.s. I was going to post pictures but Blogger isn't letting me add any images right now. Since I am determined to finish this post you will just have to make do without this time. So sorry!
